Teaching in Virginia Beach in June, 2016, Venerable Chuc Thanh told the sangha “The sharpest sword is a word spoken in wrath (anger). The deadliest poison is covetousness (desire). The fiercest fire is hatred. The darkest night is ignorance.”
Do these four extreme characteristics or behaviors help us define what our middle path may look like? How can you apply your understanding of these four extremes to your daily practice of Buddhism?
(Venerable Thich Chuc Thanh is the Dharma Master at Dong Hung Temple. These quotations were collected from 2015 through 2018 as he taught in Virginia Beach, VA and Southern Shores, NC. The quotation titles and commentary are by temple member Mark Palamara.)
