Mindfulness Meditation 101:

Meditation is an ancient, yet very modern, science-backed methodology which, when practiced properly and consistently over time, can often bring us a deeper sense of peace, a more full sense of self, and a way to ground ourselves in an often tumultuous world. More than that, it is a way to help us see deeply all the moments of our lives, so that we may experience all of them more fully.

Yet, this simple tradition is so often misconstrued. Without a clear sense of direction, or a defined methodology, even the most earnest spiritual or contemporary “seeker” can find themselves lost in a sea of lineages and methods. With different traditions teaching different practices, even the strongest of interests and purest of intentions can falter. This can bring up the opposite of what we are told meditation “is supposed to” bring us. A misconception itself, as in fact, proper practice can – and will – sometimes lead to uncovering tumultuous feelings and deeper emotions.

Confused, unsettled, and uncertain, what is one to do?

This class introduces participants to a simple, 20-minute, daily mindfulness meditation practice which, once learned, is yours for life. Rooted in the Kägyu Lineage of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, yet easily accessible and applicable to modern practitioners, this class is designed to give all beings the foundational skills, knowledge, and confidence to establish and maintain a regular meditation practice. We will gather in a gently-guided group setting with the support of fellow practitioners. Both newcomers and experienced individuals are welcome!

Over time, this practice will lead to a stronger sense of mental and personal strength (resilience), stability, and clarity. Often, this brings us to a deeper place of peace or to a clearer awareness of both our inner and outer experiences.

The structure of the class is to be as follows:

10:00: Introduction and Opening Instructions

10:40: 20-Minute Seated Mindfulness Meditation

11:00: 10-Minute Walking Meditation

11:10: 10-Minute Seated Mindfulness Meditation

11:20-11:30: Closing/ Q&A

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to sitting together!
